A FERMENTATION CHAMBER FOR THE ARTS.

BUILDING 5
Where industrial legacy meets cultural innovation.

Located in Portland, Oregon, Building Five is a 5,000-square-foot contemporary arts venue dedicated to shaping the future of creative practice. We present large-scale installations, host interdisciplinary artist residencies, lead educational workshops, and produce impactful events that serve as a catalyst for artistic and cultural advancement.

Housed within the historic NW Marine Artworks complex, Building Five occupies a World War II-era structure that once belonged to NW Marine Ironworks (NWMIW)—a powerhouse in maritime engineering and a vital contributor to major public works projects throughout the 20th century.

Today, Building Five carries that legacy forward—not with machinery, but with ideas. It is a dynamic platform for artists, thinkers, and communities to push boundaries, reimagine space, and create work that resonates far beyond its walls.

This is more than an art space.
It’s a monument to transformation—and a launchpad for what’s next.
